My recent “Inside Out” Study Guide for helping teens and adults understand emotions has been getting positive feedback on Pinterest. Today I’m sharing some ideas for helping younger kids and tweens (grades K-8) use the Disney/Pixar movie to better understand their feelings.

Helping Kids Understand Emotions with Inside Out

You can use this idea even if you or […]

UPDATE: Activities, art therapy, and questions for helping children (K-8) understand emotions with “Inside Out” is now available (click here.)

Inside Out” by Disney/Pixar is in theaters now. As a therapist, I loved seeing emotions brought to life. I loved seeing concepts such as personality, memory and depression illustrated. I especially appreciated the message that all feelings have value. The movie inspired me to write up a list of questions for understanding emotions better. I was thinking primarily of the teens and young adults I see in therapy, but I think anyone can benefit from them. Please download a free printable copy of my Inside Out Study Guide: Understanding Emotions.*

By | 2016-11-01T21:48:42+00:00 August 16th, 2014|Categories: Blog, Giveaways/Free Resources, Mental Wellness|Tags: , , |5 Comments

Suicide has been in the news a lot this week with the sad passing of Robin Williams. People from all walks of life have been surprised to learn how much the death of an actor has affected them. This week, and perhaps for another week more, the media will talk about depression, mental illness and suicide prevention.

I have worked for a community college mental health counseling center since 2007. In addition to working one on one with students, we work on a campus-wide basis to raise awareness, fight stigma, and promote mental wellness. Typically in any given year, we also sponsor one or two fairs around wellness. During National Suicide Prevention Week (the 2nd week of September) we often hold suicide prevention […]

Giveaway: Ergobaby Wrap for Babywearing

By | 2016-11-01T21:48:42+00:00 June 16th, 2014|Categories: Blog, Giveaways/Free Resources|Tags: , , |11 Comments

I am very excited to host a great giveaway! In partnership with my Baby Birds Farm and Cocina, I am raffling off an Ergobaby Wrap. I believe firsthand in the benefit of keeping baby close and wearing a them in a hug. Babies that are kept close to parents (both moms and dads) are calmer, happier and easier. Wearing them keeps your arms free, and if ergonomic, is much better for your back. For more tips on how to prepare for an easy postpartum time, please see this post on finding your circle of support.
